The Hail Mary: A Powerful Story of Conversion

The Hail Mary: A Powerful Story of Conversion

Dec 07

Catholic Prayer: Hail MaryThe Hail Mary is indeed a powerful prayer. Through this prayer, Mother Mary has interceded for the conversions of many souls.

The Hail Mary is a prayer from the bible. The first part of the Hail Mary is from a passage about the Annunciation of the Angel to Our Lady. ‘Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women.’

The second part of the Hail Mary comes from the salutation of St. Elizabeth to the Mary when they greet each other after Mary has conceived Jesus and Elizabeth has conceived John. In that greeting, while praising God for his goodness, Mary says that ‘all generations will call me blessed.’

Truly the Magnificat has to be one of the most beautiful passages in the bible. We read:

46   And Mary said,
        ”My soul magnifies the Lord,
47   and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48   for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
             Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49   for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
             and holy is his name.
50   His mercy is for those who fear him
             from generation to generation.
51   He has shown strength with his arm;
             he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
52   He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
             and lifted up the lowly;
53   he has filled the hungry with good things,
             and sent the rich away empty.
54   He has helped his servant Israel,
             in remembrance of his mercy,
55   according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
             to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

Luke 1:46-55

In his blog, “Defenders of the Catholic Faith,” Stephen Ray shares a story of powerful conversions being brought through Mother Mary and the Hail Mary. Here’s how the story begins:

“A little six-year-old Protestant boy had often heard his Catholic companion reciting the prayer ‘Hail Mary.’ He liked it so much that he copied it, memorized it and would recite it every day. ‘Look, Mummy, what a beautiful prayer,’ he said to his mother one day. ‘Never again say it,’ answered the mother.’ it is a superstitious prayer of Catholics who adore idols and think Mary a goddess. After all, she is a woman like any other. Come on, take this Bible and read it. It contains everything that we are bound to do and have to do.’”

If you know Mary, you know the story ends in conversion. But until you read the story, you don’t know how she does it. You will be inspired by the story.
